Nowadays, income inequality in our society is a very serious problem and hard to control. Most social and health problems are caused by income inequality.
I use Japan, France and U.S.A to be the example in this article. In USA, the income inequality had come to a point which the richest 20% is 8.5 times richer that the poorest 20%. In France, the income inequality is not as bad as it is in the US; the richest 20% is 5.6 times richer that the poorest 20%. And in Japan, the richest 20% is 3.4 times richer than the poorest 20%. So U.S has the most serious problem of income equality, France is in the middle, and Japan is at the bottom.
Health problems are the outcome of income equality. Base on the scatterplot of percent obese, even the pattern of those data is not very strong, but we still can see the association between inequality and obesity. Japan was in the button, France is in the middle and US is in the top. The result reflects the ranking of inequality in the nation. Not only the percent obese, but also percent of drug use, teenager pregnant, and infant death. To be noticing, U.S is always at the top, France is always at the middle and Japan is always at the bottom. Those graphs reflect the ranking of inequality in the nation.
In addition, income equality effects social problems such as mentally issues and prisoners. From the graph of "Percent with any mental illness in each nations vs. income inequality." US is still highest, then France, Japan is the lowest.
Some people would say national income will also influence social and health problem. But, based on the graph of "Life expectancy vs. national income per person, there is no correlation in this graph, and it mean there is no any association between these two variables. Because income inequality is about the distribution and even increasing each person income, it isn't change the overall distribution. The poor is still poor, and the rich is still rich.
