Task:You will be required to research on the internet an official professional Scientific Journal report. You will read all or parts of the report with the aim to noticing the style of writing and language used by research teams and scientists.
You will then type an article on your “Physics” section of your Weebly account firstly typing a short summary of the journal (what were the scientists discovering/testing) then secondly write a short reflection on the type of language used by the writer (is it different than novel writing? How do they communicate results? Is the text very clear/concise? Etc).

In this journal, scientists are discovering suicide rate in China in 1995. In data table, scientists classify all data into two groups- Population group and Age group. And in each group, scientists also classify many specific sections. That makes readers understand clearly when they are analyzing data. But from some knowledge I learnt in AP Statistic, maybe put histogram or boxplot into the journal will be easier for us to analyze. By the way, this scientific report is comprehensive. The report told readers the background of the topic, the reason they did this scientific research and the method they used in this discovering. The language of scientists they used is very professional. For example, “we estimated a mean annual suicide rate for 23 per 100000 and total of 28700 suicide deaths per year.” First, the word “estimated” is defined “an approximate calculation of quantity or degree or worth”, if I do it, I will just write “ I suppose”. What’s more, the hypothesis is very specific, and I think compare with my report, his hypothesis is specific as my conclusion. That’s terrible to me, there is so many points I need to improve.
In addition, result section express the summary of each group and the differences and contrast between each group very clearly, for example: “ the range in suicide rates for rural women was 29*3-31*7 per 100000; for urban women 7*8-9*4 per 100000.” And in the discussion section, I find a interesting thing, it showed that China is one of a very few countries that suicide rate of women is higher than man. I think in China, most of women are housewife but male need to go to the job. So I think male will have more stress than women. That is surprise me.
